Bodies condemn poll process amid crisis

While denouncing the preparations being made to conduct the 18th Lok Sabha elections before restoration of normalcy and resettlement of the displaced people taking shelter in relief camps, several bodies resolved not to take part in the election until solution is brought to the humanitarian crisis.
Speaking to media persons at Thoubal Wangmataba on Monday, Khunai Kanba Apunba Meira Paibi Lup (KHUKAMPAL) president W Meipak recounted that Union home minister Amit Shah visited Manipur during the early days of the conflict to take stock of the situation and understand core of the crisis along with assuring to revisit the state, a promise which he failed to keep.
Moreover, there are reports about Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting several places, but had no time to enquire about hardships and suffering of the people of the state, she denounced, while adding that mothers of Manipur suspect hidden agenda behind the national leaders' undermining issues besieging Manipur.
As such, they will not support and take part in the upcoming election until those staying in the relief camps are resettled to their original homes and normalcy is restored in the state, she made it clear.
The press meet was also attended by Meira Paibi leaders of Thoubal Wangmataba, Thoubal Khunou, Heirok, Khangabok, Wangkhem, Tentha, Waithou and Charangpat - Thokchom.
In separate releases, Nilakuthi Meira Paibi Yaipha Thoudang Lup, Ching-Tam Nupi Apunba Lup (China Lup) and All Irengband Football Association (AIEA) denounced the preparations being made for conducting the Lok Sabha elections amidst the present unsettling situation in the state.
While demanding restoration of peace and normalcy in the state and resettlement of the displaced people, they also resolved not to part in the upcoming election.
Furthermore, Nilakuthi Meira Paibi Yaipha Thoudang Lup and AIFA have restricted election campaigns, feasting, hoisting of flags and meetings related to election in areas under their respective jurisdiction.
