Imphal, December 23 2023:
Kuki CSO leaders based in Moreh said that no step should be initiated for the resettlement of the Meetei in the border town until the Government of India and the apex body of the Kuki-Zo people reached a political settlement.
For promoting and ensuring peace and harmony in Moreh and Tengnoupal district, Kuki CSO leaders based in the border town made some points to the district administration for acknowledgement and implementation.
In a joint representation to the Tengnoupal district administration, Kuki CSO leaders said that no step should be initiated for the resettlement of the Meetei in Moreh until and unless the Government of India and the apex body of Kuki-Zo community reached a political settlement.
The joint representation signed by Hill Tribal Council Moreh president Victor Limthang, KWUHR general secretary Lahneithem Haokip, KSO Moreh block general secretary David Mimin Vaiphei, Moreh Youth Club Baocha Baite and KKL Moreh president Amos Thangzangam Haokip said that events happening in Moreh are being fabricated and publicised by state government, media houses and state commandos.
Recently, police commandos arrested some drug addicts from Myanmar while stealing in Moreh but they were portrayed as illegal Kuki immigrants by media.
Repetition of such false and cheap propaganda will disturb peace, they said.
Alleging police commandos of occupying deserted Meetei houses in Moreh, the CSO leaders said the authority concerned should stop the occupation immediately and confine them in their barrack.
In the event of any untoward incidence arising out of occupation, CSOs cannot be held accountable, they said.
They also demanded the removal of police commandos from the premises of SBI Moreh branch office stating that stationing of police commandos at SBI Moreh is causing fear among bank customers.
Parking police vehicles day and night along the congested main road in front of the bank is also causing public nuisance, it added.
Until commandos are wholly withdrawn from Moreh, no additional personnel should be deployed, they further demanded.
The CSO leaders also said that they have full faith and confidence in central security forces to keep peace and normalcy and police commands should be replaced by central forces.
