BJP will always uphold public trust: Sharda
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, October 20 2023: BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda affirmed that the party will never do anything that will threaten the territorial integrity and identity of the state nor hurt the sentiment of the people.

Addressing a press conference at the party's office here on Friday, Sharda opined that majority of people is committed to protect the territory and identity of Manipur, and also to resolve the crisis that broke out on May 3.The state is facing an unprecedented crisis and this is not the time to blame one another.

The state needs positivity in order to find a solution to the turmoil and restore the bond of brotherhood.

However, the party feels sad to see some groups of people trying to take political mileage out of the situation, she said.

Referring to a remark by Congress leader Rahul Gand hi during an election campaign in Mizoram, Sharda said that the statement of the Congress leader alleging BJP has created two states is ambiguous and reflects mentality of the Congress leader.

Similarly, former finance minister of Nagaland government ad Nagaland Congress president K Thierri also made a remark on September 14 supporting separate administration in the state.

At the same time, Mizoram Congress leader Mathew Antony had made another similar remark and BJP wants to know the reaction of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee to these remarks, Sharda said.

She also reminded that it was during the erstwhile Congress government in the state that the name of Thangjing hill was changed to Thangting on August 25, 2014, only for taking political benefits without thinking of the repercussion.

BJP reverted the name change on November 26, 2020, and also declared the sacred sites of Ibudhou Koubru and Ibudhou Thangjing as protected sites.

On the other hand, some villages in Imphal West district, which were under Panchayat jurisdiction, were added into the ADC's jurisdiction on June 29, 2012 by the then Congress government.

While covering up such facts, Congress always blames BJP for extension of the ceasefire agreement with the NSCN (IM) in the state.

It is the failure of past Congress government to take up timely initiative that had led to present situation in Manipur, she claimed and asserted that BJP will always stand against such activities.

Terming as very unfortunate that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made claims of minority communities facing threat from majority in the state, the president clarified that it is the BJP government that brought together all the smaller communities in order to strengthen the identity and unity of the state.

It is the trust of the public in the works of the BJP government that the party was given another term in the state, she said and added that the party will never betray trust-of the people.

Accusing Congress party of playing double standard poli tics, she enquired the reason for incorporating Myanmarese national T Guite as a signatory in the Suspension of Operation (SoO) in 2005 .

No matter what Congress claim, people know their history and activities and how they ignored key issues that have led to distressing situation.

As for the demand for separate administration raised by 10 MLAs, this is not about BJP but about their community and the public know it well.

In fact, it is the BJP government which took up the initiative to implement NRC and complete border fencing in the state.

Today, the government is working towards restoring peace and normalcy so that the displaced people could return to their homes and restart their lives, she added.

Several BJP leaders were also present at the press conference.
