4 indigenous communities unite for Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba Festival

The Meetei, Chothe, Kabui, and Maring indigenous communities in Manipur are set to jointly celebrate the "Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba" festival for the first time.
This unified celebration aims to strengthen the bonds between the communities and promote the shared Sanamahi faith.
A press conference was held today at the Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple in Haying Khongban Uphong Yumpham to announce the details of the upcoming event.
The festival, which marks the traditional new year, will be organised at the State level by a newly formed body, the "Apunba Kangiei Yelhou Phurup Sajibu Nongma Panba Kumhou Festival Committee".

The event is scheduled to take place on March 19 at Lamlang Hupi village in Bishnupur district, a settlement of the Chothe community.
To ensure that household religious practices, which typically occur in the morning, are not disturbed, the main public function will be held in the afternoon.
The celebration will feature traditional religious rituals common to all four groups, along with cultural programmes including indigenous dances and songs.
Shivadutta Luwang, member secretary of the Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board (LSTB), explained that the four communities have historically followed the Sanamahi religion and share similar new year traditions.
The joint celebration is an effort to showcase their shared heritage and foster unity.
The committee has also appealed to the Government to officially recognize the event and provide annual budgetary support.
The organising committee was formalized at a meeting on February 19.Kamson Gangmumei Kabui was appointed as the chairman, while Thao Jatra Chothe and Meisnam Iboba were selected as vice chairmen.
The LSTB's vice president Bidyapati Senjam, announced the appointments during today's press interaction.
