Thoubal, August 27 2024:
In view of the recent floods which has left many homes submerged underwater, the District Administration Thoubal has set up eleven relief camps where upwards of 1000 people are currently taking shelter, said Thoubal Deputy Commissioner Ahanthem Subash.
Speaking to media persons during a press briefing at Thoubal DC Office today, Ahanthem Subash informed that heavy incessant rains in the last few days have caused flooding in many areas of Thoubal.
The most severely affected regions include Tekcham, Tentha, Samaram, Sangaiyumfam, Khangabok, Leishangthem, Khelakhong, Uchiwa, Heiyel and Lilong Chingkham among others.
People from these areas have fled to relief camps as their houses are inundated and not fit for habitation, continued the DC.
The District Administration is supplying essential requirements to the flood-affected people in these relief camps while the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Thoubal has started organising medical camps from yesterday onwards.
He further added that the blockage of Lousi canal at Chingkakpham (Chingkakpi) caused by a landslide has also been cleared out and normal water flow has been restored.
Unfortunately, flood waters have submerged a majority of the paddyfields in Thoubal district.
This poses grave problems concerning agricultural produce in the near future, said the DC.
Additionally, due to flooding of fish farms in the district, the fish farmers are also faced with daunting challenges.
In this regard, DC Ahanthem Subash urged people to lend their support and cooperation to ensure that the affected farmers receive their due compensation under the prescribed norms of the State Government.
