Imphal, October 18 2023:
Former Minister and former Manipur Olympic Association president Bijoy Koijam has categorically stated that the executive council of Manipur Olympic Association, whose term has already lapsed last year, has failed to conform itself with the Indian Olympic Association charters.
Addressing media persons at his Palace Compound residence, the executive council managing the Manipur Olympic Association had to elect a new executive council as soon as its term expired but it did not happen even a year has lapsed, he said while decrying inordinate delay in holding the impending election citing unjustifiable reasons like Covid pandemic and ongoing communal crisis.
Even if unavoidable circumstances have forced to delay the election, conventionally the association should convene a general body meeting and constitute an ad hoc committee to look into the affairs of the association, he said.
He also expressed suspicion of fund mismanagement in the association and inability to submit proper account statements to the department concerned for the delayance in holding executive council election and urged the State Government to look into the matter and take up necessary actions.
Bijoy Koijam also went on to question the appointment of an unreasonably high number of election observers for the election proposed to be held on November 25 in three venues.
Stating that it is unfortunate for the Director of SAI has to work from outside the State after the Director had to leave in the wake of the communal crisis, he also drew the attention of the authorities concerned to appoint someone eligible of holding the office considering the image the State has in the field of games and sports.
He also extended best wishes to the State contingent who will be representing the State in the upcoming Goa National Games to shine and bring home more medals
than previous editions.
