Court grants bail to Cong workers

CJM Imphal West on Wednesday granted bail to six Congress workers who were arrested by police on October 13.On Wednesday, a City PS team produced Congress workers Md Rafi (25) s/o Ibomcha of Sangaiyumpham Ningthou Mamang Leikai, Chongtham Rajesh (25) s/o (L) Leibakmacha of Patsoi Part-ll, Yengkhom Amitkumar (26) s/o lshingchaoba of Kakching Mayai Leikai, Sachin Takhellambam (22) s/o (L) Tomchou of Ngaikhong Khullen Mayai Leikai, Ningthoujam Mahanta (22) s/o Gobindro and Md Arif (19) s/o Wahid Khan of Lilong Atoukhong at the court of CJM Imphal West after expiry of the police custody period, with a prayer for another police custody remand for 14 days.
According to the report submitted by the case 10, on October.
13 around 3.30 pm, an SI of City PS filed a report to the OC of the PS.
The report informed that around 2.25 pm of the day, the SI was on duty near Congress Bhawan, BT Road when around 250-300 members of Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee and other political parties took out a rally towards Raj Bhavan, while violating restriction imposed under Section 144 of CrPC.
As such, the SI along with other personnel including women police on duty in the area tried to intercept the crowd.
However, the crowd not only obstructed the personnel from doing their duty but some of the protestors attacked him (SI) injuring him in the process and also tore his uniform.
On questioning the arrested protestors, they refused to reveal the identities of the people involved in the incident.
In addition, as there is possibility of the protestors tampering with the evidences, the 10 made a prayer to the court for remanding the arrested people for 14 more days in police custody for further questioning.
After listening to the IO's report and examining the bail applications submitted by the defence counsel, the court granted bail to the six accused on execution of a PR bond and surety bond.
