Protection of Manipur's art forms stressed

Emphasising on the importance and value of various art forms of Manipur, Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board (LSTB) member Shivdutta Luwang has stated that protection of our existing art forms is necessary if we are to promote our priceless cultural heritage.
Shivdutta was speaking at a function organised as part of the ongoing "Festival of Narrative Art Forms of Manipur" at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shan-glen, Palace Compound, here, on Wednesday.
The festival organised as part of the month-long theatre training programme based on 'Moirang Parva' jointly organised by Manipur State Shumang Leela Council and Theatre Mirror, will conclude on Friday.
Observing that the cultural heritage endowed by our forefathers appears to be degenerating, he called for protecting and preserving the various art forms if we are to promote Manipur's cultural heritages.
Shivdutta also pointed out the need to enrich the narrative art forms.
Manipur State Kala Akademi deputy secretary K Rajumani, who was also present as one of the presidium members of the function, said that the festival has been organised with the objective of protecting, promoting and reviving the narrative art form and they believe that the festival will surely bear fruit one day.
He also appealed to the public to take part in the festival and make it a grand success in addition to trying to understand the various art forms of the state.
On the occasion, theatre director Loitongbam Brajamohon was honoured by Manipur Youth's Cultural Organisation through Manipur State Shumang Leela Council.
