CCSK observes Manipur National Day

In commemoration of the first session of the elected State Assembly of Manipur held at Manipur State Durbar Hall on October 18, 1948, the Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK) today observed Manipur National Day at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen in Palace Compound, Imphal.
The commemorative function of the historic day was attended by Oinam Kulabidu, retired Assistant Registrar, Manipur University; CCSK president Jitendra Ningomba; CCSK convenor Thiyam Sharatchandra and CCSK consultant Dr Ashangbam Jiten as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Thiyam Sharatchandra stated that 'Kangleipak Manipur' has a proud & long history dating back to 33 AD .
"Manipur became a princely State under British rule in 1891 after the Anglo-Manipur War, the last of the independent States to be incorporated into British India.
Manipur again briefly became an independent State on August 14, 1947, with the lapse of paramountcy of the British Crown", he added.
He shared that after the passage of Manipur State Constitution Act 1947, a general election was conducted in June-July 1948 in the State on the basis of universal adult franchise to elect 56 representatives.
He continued that on October 18, 1948, Maharaja Bodhachandra inaugurated the inaugural session of the State Assembly of one of the first democratic forms of Government in South East Asia in Durbar Hall and MK Priyobarta Singh was appointed as the Chief Minister.
Saratchandra further stressed on the importance of observing Manipur National Day and urged all to come together to protect the unity and territorial integrity of the State.
