Imphal, October 18 2023:
Volunteers of MUSU and its federating units on Wednesday locked the office of MOBC over alleged non-release of the Post Matric Scholarship for the Academic Session 2021-22 and 2022-23 .
A large number of students stormed the office of MOBC in North AOC, Imphal, and locked the office after evacuating the staff at around 2.30 pm.
Later, MUSU announced the boycott of the Directorate during a press conference held at its office premises in Manipur University.
Briefing media persons, MUSU vice president Oinam Premdash stated that MUSU and College Students' Unions take the issue of non-release of Post Matric Scholarship for OBC, EBC & DNT for the Academic Session 2021-22 and 2022-23 very seriously.
He shared that on July 7, 2023, the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (Department of Social Justice and Empowerment), New Delhi, had already informed MUSU about the release of funds amounting to Rs 10,44,73,000 for the scholarship to the Government of Manipur.
He continued that despite a number appeals and representations submitted to the State Government & relevant authorities, they have chosen to ignore all the request for release of the pending scholarship.
He also alleged that the delay in releasing the scholarship to students is akin to misappropriation of funds by the relevant authorities of the State.
Premdash further cautioned that if the State Government and MOBC doesn't take immediate action and release the pending scholarship at the earliest, students will be compelled to launch a series of agitation.
