Challenge Cup Veteran Football: KFC, VSAI register comfortable wins

Keishamthong Football Club (KFC), Keishamthong and Veteran Sports Association (VSA) Thangmeiband registered comfortable wins in league match of the 17th Challenge Cup Veteran Football Tournament being played under the supervision of Manipur Veteran Football Association (MVFA) at Mapal Kangjeibung on Saturday.
KFC score one goal in each half to outclass Football Veteran Welfare Association (FVWA) by 2-0 while VSAI walk over Football Club (FC) Imphal by a solitary goal.
KFC and FVWA played the first match.
KFC began the match with series of attacks and stamped their authority when Shivdutta slotted the ball into the goalmouth of FVWA in the 2nd min of the match.
The wakeup call made FVWA players regrouped resulting in numerous attempts to reduce the deficit.
KFC defenders protected their territory from the advancing FVWA players and went into the break with one goal lead.
Similar to first half, after exchange of ends, KFC exploited the slowness of FVWA players in the initial minutes of play to score a goal in the 36th min through S Ronikumar to take two-goal lead.
Frustrated by the smartness of KFC, FVWA played their hearts out to reduce the goal and were all around the ground.
However, KFC exploited their two goal advantage and play out the rest of the match without any harm to pocket the match.
VSAI clashed with FC Imphal in the second match.
Both the teams employ possession football and the match was concentrated in the midfield.
Suddenly, M Debananda surge ahead of his markers and his powerful drive beats the custodian of FC Imphal to hand over the lead to KFC in 16th min of the match.
After the half break, FC Imphal made all out effort to get the one goal deficit however, KFC players defended with purpose and defended the one goal advantage till the end of the match.
The first half goal finally made the difference between the teams in the end and KFC happily walk away with the match.
