Imphal, April 25 2015 :
Close on the heels of the Liangmai Naga Council (LNC) and Rongmei Naga Council (RNC) Manipur deciding not to cooperate with all the activities of the UNC, the Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) today said that Zeliangrong being one of the constituent tribes of the United Naga Council will actively involve, participate and enforce the decision of UNC in Zeliangrong areas in its pursuit of the common Naga issues and future.
In a statement, ZYF said that there have been few instances where Rongmei Naga Council and Liangmai Naga Council issuing confusing statements in the past without realising the reality which is quite absurd, disturbing and disgusting.
The Zeliangrong community like any other Naga tribes in Manipur is represented by one single body in the United Naga Council since its inception.
As a constituent unit of the UNC, Zeliangrongs are actively involved, participating and enforcing all activities of the UNC in its pursuit of the common Nagas issues and future till date.
"Therefore, few individuals donning the mask of Rongmei Naga Council or Liangmai Naga Council trying to make 'a mountain out of a mole hill' is nothing but seems personal frustration couple with instigation by vested interest groups which is not completely related to Naga people and the UNC," it said.
"There is no instance of Zeliangrong people adopting a resolution in any meeting or people's convention to represent Zeliangrong community in any Naga organizations be it in UNC or Naga Hohos etc with different nomenclatures, the ZYF said.
As such there is no logic for issuing baseless statement either announcing "disassociation" from the UNC or "withdrawing support" or "boycott" or "non cooperation movement" to any activities of UNC on the ground of the UNC ignoring or refusing the affiliation of RNC or LNC into its fold.
It is crystal clear that United Naga Council will entertain any tribe's complaints only when respective tribe took appropriate decision of their respective community's interest but any complaint raised at the capacity of individuals or groups is quite childish which reflects lack of responsibility on the part of the complainants, it said.
Regarding the recognition and inclusion of Rongmei and Liangmai in the latest scheduled tribes list, the ZYF clarified that the Zeliangrong people were recognised and known as "Kabui" and "Kacha Naga" in the official documents prior to latest recognition.
Any rectification, modification or alteration effected by the Govt of India or State Govt in the scheduled tribes list should not be the justifiable ground for Zeliangrong people to change the history, custom, culture, tradition, folk tales, practices etc.
But the Zeliangrong people whose history and origin are one and same cannot be separated but will remain united.
The ZYF further added that Zeliangrong being one of constituent tribes of UNC will actively involve, participate and enforce the decision of UNC in Zeliangrong areas.
