Imphal, April 25 2015 :
Demo-cratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has urged the agita-ting faculty members of JNIMS to switch to other forms of agitation as the suspension of casualty, OPD and routine operation services has created lots of inconve-niences to the general public.
Speaking to reporters, DESAM president M Angamba said that they would not remain silent if the current impasse is not sorted out at the earliest.
He said that JNIMS faculty members had submitted a memorandum highlighting their demands to the Chief Minister, who is also the president of JNIMS Society, long time back before they launched their stir on April 21 .
Patients who are undergoing treatment in different wards of the Government medical facility are left in the lurch due to the ongoing stir, he added.
Even if the demands raised by the faculty members of JNIMS are genuine, it is unfortunate to go on an indefi- nite cease work strike as medical facilities are undoubtedly listed under essential services, he said and added that it is a well known fact that medical professionals/teams are spared even at times of war.
He also urged the Teacher's Association, JNIMS to call off their stir considering the inconveniences being faced by hundreds of patients including those coming from far-flung and interior areas.
Angamba also urged the Government to fulfil the ge-nuine demands of JNIMS fa- culty members at the earliest.
The student leader also demanded the Government to constitute a fact finding committee to probe the allegations levelled against the incumbent Director of the medical institute.
He added that members of Trained Nurse Association of India (TNAI), JNIMS unit have also been protesting the Government's silence on their demands by wearing black badge since past few days.
The association had submitted a memorandum which mentioned their charter of demands to the Chief Minister on April 20, Angamba said.
He also urged the Government to consider the demands of the nurses and bring a solution at the earliest.
