NEC to distribute cash incentives to Natl Games medal winners tomorrow

The long awaited cash incentives for state players who won medals in the 34th National Games held in Jharkhand is now ready to be distributed and the distribution will be done in a formal function which is to be held at the MFDC Auditorium Hall, on September 15 at 4 pm.
In all 244 state players who won medals in the last National Games will get cash incentives of Rs 5.56 lakhs in total during the function.
Out of the 244 players, 107 are gold medallists, 82 silver medallists and 55 bronze medallists.
Mention may be made that Manipur after winning 48 gold, 37 silver and 33 bronze grabbed the second spot in overall ranking in the last National Games which was held from February 13 to 25 in Jharkhand.
Out of the total one time cash incentives, NEC had provided Rs 16 lakhs to six archers of the state who won medals in the National Games.
The remaining athletes will get their share on September 15.The distribution function will be graced by state Chief Minister O Ibobi, Chairman NEC & Minister of State DoNER in charge Pawan Singh Ghatowa and President Manipur Olympic Association Bijoy Koijam as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.
Prior to the distribution of the cash incentives, NEC will also felicitate the 10 Olympians of North East India who represent India in the recently concluded London Olympics.
NEC will also distribute its promised cash incentives to the 10 NE Olympians in the occasion.
MC Mary Kom who won bronze medal in women's 51 kg Boxing in the London Olympics will be awarded a cash incentive of Rs 40 lakh while the other nine Olympians will be honoured with Rs 5 lakh each.
The nine NE Olympians who could not win any medals in the London Games were Archer Laishram Bombayla (Manipur), Archer Tarundeep Rai (Sikkim), Archer Jayanta Talukdar (Assam), Archer Chekrovolu Swuro (Nagaland), Boxer Laishram Devendro (Manipur), Boxer Shiva Thapa (Assam), Weightlifter Ngangbam Soniya Chanu (Manipur), Hockey player Khadangbam Kothajit (Manipur) and Tennis player Somdev Barman (Tripura) .
