Villagers allege SF high-handedness

Majuron Kabui villagers have alleged high handedness of central security force personnel who raided the village in the name of counter-insurgency operation last night.
Majuron Kabui village is said to be located under Henglep sub-division of Churachandpur district but lies close to Loktak Project.
According to Majuron Women Society president PG Abilu, about five armed persons in civies arrived at the village at around 7.30 pm yesterday in a white colour Maruti Van (MN08/2213) and started to question whereabouts of UGs .
Atleast five houses in the village were specifically picked out for intense searching, said the women leader who also alleged that the suspected security force personnel slapped an ailing teenager at one of the houses.
Identifying the victim as Dimdhaongam (13), Abilu stated that inspite of the youngster telling the assailants that he is in the recovery stage after a recent appendicitis operation they disregarded the plea.
Apart from assaulting Dimdhaongam, his father namely Lungampao was also dragged out from the house and was about to be taken away.
However, womenfolk rushed in and managed to free the father from the clutches of the invaders, maintained the president.
Infuriated with the womenfolk's action, all the ladies of the village were called out and made to stand at the road while one of the invaders switched off the street light.
As one Roma Kamei (25) w/o Tarun Kamei tried to put on the light one of the men cocked the weapon and threatened to shoot her, said Abilu.
The intruders also took snapshots of Roma Kamei.
It is said that Abilu and women society secretary Asunta Kabui were singled out for intense questioning on where the UGs that came to the village had gone, to which both conceded that they had no idea.
Even as the armed invaders continued to man-handle some of the village menfolk, one of the victims namely as Soihem Pamei identified himself as a VDF personnel only to be rebuked and mocked.
While the thrashing was still on a Maruti Gypsy with the occupants wearing security attires showed up at the village, maintained Abilu and added that at that moment someone from the village managed to contact officer in-charge of Loktak Project police station on telephone.
Contending that the invaders comprised of an individual who spoke fluent Manipuri while most of his companions communicated in Hindi, some of the villagers who came to office of this daily to narrate their ordeals asserted that the attackers were personnel of 6/8 Gorkha Rifles stationed at Ningthoukhong post.
They further claimed that due to frequent arrival of the security personnel most of the villagers are familiar with the appearances of the invaders.
They also strongly condemned high handedness of the security force personnel upon innocent civilians.
