Imphal, September 13 2012:
On account of the Panchayat poll, normal commercial activity at Khwairamband Market was severely affected.
Even as most of the markets including the three Nupi Keithels were open, number of people coming to the markets for shopping was negligible.
Thangal Keithel and Paona Keithel roads which are choc-a-bloc with traffic and shoppers on normal days were almost vacant.
Today turned out a special treat for Traffic police as they had little to do to control the traffic flow.
All the parking lots of Imphal city used by passenger carriers like diesel auto-rickshaws, Tata Magic vans, Winger vans etc wore deserted looks as most of the passenger carriers took the day off for the Panchayat poll.
The parking lots of Nagamapal, Wahengbam Leikai, Keishampat, Johnstone School, GM Hall, Assembly Road, Kanglapat, MG Avenue etc were left almost vacant as there was little vehicular traffic.
Movement of vehicles picked up to some extent after 4 pm when the voting was over.
