1st M Jodishchandra Memorial Invitation Football Tournament gets underway

The first edition of Moirangthem Jodishchandra Memorial Invitation Football Tournament kicked off today at Jiribam Higher Secondary School playground under the aegis of All Jiribam Sports Association.
The tournament participated by 16 teams is sponsored by Moirangtham Mubi, SP Jiribam in fond memory of his son M Jodishchandra.
The inaugural function of the tournament was attended by Mayanglambam Rajkumar, DC Jiribam as chief guest, M Brajakanta Singh, president, AJSA as functional president and M Mubi Singh as guest of honour respectively.
The opening match (preliminary round knock-out stage) of the tournament saw PFC, Phaitol edge out Kuki SC (KSC), Raniveng with a comeback 2-1 victory.
Jacob put KSC ahead in the fifth minute after dominating the earlier proceedings but the team failed to preserve their lead and PFC were successful in denying their latter efforts before overturning the fate of the game in the second half.
PFC pulled level in the 66th minute through L Sandam after toiling for more than a hour while Khuppol Singson strike in the 75th minute completed the turnaround.
PFC then held on well to finish the game 2-1 and set up pre-quarter final (knock-out stage) date with UBFC, Hmarkhulien.
JYC, Jairolpokpi will play Diger HSC, Cachar in the next preliminary round match tomorrow at 2 pm .
