Workshop on Nata Sankirtana underway at Lakhipur

Lakhipur, January 03 2020:
A 15-day workshop on Nata Sankirtana organised by Shree Shree Bhagyachadra Manipuri Dance, Academy, Lakhipur,Cachar under the sponsorship of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA), Imphal, is underway at Konjeng Leikai Hari Mandap, Lakhipur, Cachar, Assam.
The workshop which began on December 29 last will continue till January 12, 2020 .
Altogether 33 students of the performing art who are attending the workshop are being trained by Guru Meihoubam Seityaban Singh (pung), Guru Laishram Birajit Singh (song) and Sanasam Shantikumar.
Speaking to media persons, Guru Meihoubam Seityaban Singh said that JNMDA had organised a similar workshop in the past outside Manipur and will conduct more to preserve the originality and sanctity of such performing art (Nata Sankirtana) which is an important aspect in the lives of the many Manipur's people.
Saying that Nata Sankirtana includes various forms to mark religious occasions and various stages in the life of the Vaishnava people, he added that the art form was recognised by UNESCO in 2013.Guru Laishram Birajit Singh also said that the workshop is being organised to promote Nata Sankirtana to a greater height.
It may be mentioned that the inaugural programme of the workshop was attended by Lukram Mohendro Singh, president, Shree Shree Bhagyachadra Manipuri Dance Academy, Lakhipur, Cachar; Kangabam Santikumar ACS, retd; Guru Meihoubam Seityaban Singh and Guru Laishram Birajit Singh as the presidium members.
