AR constructs football ground

Chandel Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) dedicated a football ground to the villagers of New Wangparel of Chandel District on November 16.New Wangparel is a village full of raw talent in the field of sports.
Inspite of being a sparsely populated village with 184 villagers, the village has produced talented footballers like Sonem Chothe, who plays football for NEROCA FC.
Realising the immense talent and passion of the youth, the village Chief of New Wangparel approached Assam Rifles in the month of September for assistance in Construction of a football ground.
Understanding the needs of the youth and requirement of a football ground for nurturing the sports talent of the village, Chandel Battalion constructed a standard size football ground of size 90 x 45.For the project team of Assam Rifles moved a total of 5000 - 6000 tones of land to clean an area of 110 x 46 meter and further conducted the levelling of ground and carried the planning of the football ground.
To express their heartfelt gratitude to Assam Rifles for extending valuable assistance in construction of football ground, the villagers and youth of the village organised a thanks giving ceremony today, said a press release of IGAR (S).
The event was attended by officer of Chandel battalion, cultural and welfare secretary of Chothe Tribe Union, Village chief and assistant village chief of New Wangparel.
