Ward No 8 (B), 13 (A) emerge champions of KIWAT; memorial award adorns prize distribution ceremony

Ward No 8 (B) edged past Ward No 14 (B) in a penalty shoot-out to be crowned champions of Team-B in the 15th Kanggui Inter Ward Tournament 2019 which also witnessed audience in large numbers at M Thomas Ground, Kangpokpi DHQs today.
Team-B final match played before Team-A final match witnessed a goalless draw with both team displaying exceptional performance during the regular time and have not conceded any goal from both side.
In the penalty shoot-out, one player of Ward No 14 (B) failed to convert a penalty kick into goal which has resulted Ward No 14 (B) settled with the runner-up title by 4-5 goals against Ward No 8 (B) .
Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister, Nemcha Kipgen, who was supposed to grace the closing ceremony the tournament as chief guest could not make it due to health issues and sent a representative in her place while chairman ADC Sadar Hills, Haokholal Hangshing also missed the event due to official emergency matters at Imphal.
However, Deputy Commissioner, Kangpokpi Dr Rangitabali Waikhom, IAS and Col V M Naithani, CO 38 Assam Rifles impressively charmed the beautiful closing ceremony as guests of honour and motivated the people of Kangpokpi especially the youths to maintain the spirit of sports.
Even though Nemcha Kipgen was not present physically, but through her representative, she sent a message for the people of Kangpokpi especially the youth of Kangpokpi District Headquarters to stay away from drugs.
The Minister also contributed Rs 1 lakh which was handed over by H Guite to promote the spirit of games for the people of Kangpokpi.
No 13 turned 'Lucky Number' in the 15th Kanggui Inter Ward Tournament 2019 as Ward No 13 (A) claimed a convincing 2-1 victory over hot favorites Ward No 1 (A) to lift Team-A championship title for the first time after the Ward was bifurcated to create Ward No 16 few years back.
Ward No 1 (A) was the more attacking and better team right from the start.
Not surprisingly, they took the early lead when a fast counter attack down the right flank saw Haominlen find Paokai with a horizontal pass at the edge of Ward No 13 (A) six-yard box.
Paokai made no mistake, bulging the net with a header early in the 11th minute.
Ward No 13 (A) found the equalizer only just before the stoppage time of the first half in the 43th minute when its skipper Lungin alias Dady struck home on the rebound after the tournament top scorer Thangvanglen free kick had ricocheted off by Ward No 1 (A) defender.
Ward No 1 (A) tried to create openings after a better comeback in the second half but it was Ward No 13 (A), who proved No 13 a lucky number, and tasted victory with Lalchunglen finding the back of the net when he out jumped his marker to head in off a corner to silence the cheering Ward No 1 crowd in the 79th minute.
Champions Ward No 13 from Team-A and Ward No 8 from team B were awarded with a trophy each in memory of (L) Tongjalal Lhouvum and (L) Thangkholet Kipgen with a cash prize of Rs 20,000/- and Rs 15,000/- respectively along with certificates while runners up team Ward No 1 (A) from Team-A and Ward No 14 (B) from Team-B were awarded with a trophy each in memory of (L) Ngamgouhao Khongsai, who was killed in a road accident during the tournament by a speeding tanker, and Minthanglen alias Wilson Doungel with a cash prize of Rs 15,000/- and Rs 10,000/- respectively along with certificate.
Vengthah of Ward No 3 bagged both Men's and Women's Volleyball Champions trophy awarded in memory of (L) Raghu and (L) Veichin Haokip with a cash prize of Rs 10,000/- each along with certificate while Men's Volleyball runner-up Ward No 2 and Women's Volleyball runner up Ward No 9 (B) received a trophy each in memory of (L) Lamminnei Hangshing with a cash prize of Rs 7,000/- each along with certificate.
Thangvanglen of Ward No 13, who scored 13 goals, bagged the top scorer award and his teammate Lamlunlal Haokip was adjudged man of the tournament given in memory of (L) Henkholal Haokip while custodian of Ward No 13, Seigunlal Lhanghal bagged the prestigious best goalkeeper award and promising player given in memory of (L) Seitinlen Haokip.
Nelson Lhouvum bagged the best defender award given in memory of (L) Pupu Misao.
Paomounsang Khongsai of Ward No 3 and Neichinghoi Kipgen of Ward No 12 received the men's and women's Volleyball best player award while Ward No 10 bagged the best discipline team award and Gunindro of Ward No 2 bagged the fan of the year award.
