Sports seminar kick-starts at MU

A three-day state level seminar on sports movement in 21st century Manipur was inaugurated today at the Centenary Hall of Manipur University.
The seminar is organised jointly by Sports Movement Committee, Manipur; Department of Physical Education and Sports Science, MU; Directorate of Youth Affairs and Sports; and SAI, North East Regional Centre, Imphal.
The inaugural function of the seminar was graced by VC of Manipur University, Prof HNK Sharma; Convenor of Sports Movement Committee, RK Ranendrajit; and Dean, School of Human and Environmental Science, MU Prof W Nabakumar; Director of YAS, H Dilip; Director of SAI, NE Regional Centre, Francis Marwin and Chief Managing Director of Babina Health Care and Hospitality, Dr Th Dhabali as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking as the chief guest, Prof HNK Sharma said, one could not practice any discipline of games of his like just because he is healthy.
He said excellence can be achieved when the physical structure of the practitioner is in proportion to his chosen discipline of sports.
Convenor of Sports Movement committee, Manipur RK Ranendrajit called upon instilling character of nationalism among the younger generations through sports movement in the state.
The scientific session of the seminar was moderated by Dr A Lokendra and Prof W Nabakumar.
Vice-President of Manipur Olympic Association, S Lokeshore presented a paper on sports history in the 20th century while president of Senior Citizens for Society, N Binoy spoke on reminiscence of Manipur Olympic Games, 1948 .
Other speakers included Retired Deputy Director of Sports of MU, Ksh Jugeshowr, President of Manipur Olympic Association, E Binoykumar; Retired Joint Director of YAS, RK Dhiren; and former Chairperson of Manipur State Women Commission, Dr Ch Jamini.
