IGAR(S) interacts with village chiefs

IGAR(S), Maj Gen UK Gurung, YSM accompanied by Commander HQ 26 Sector AR, Brig Upendra Dwivedi visited Sajik Tampak in Chandel today and interacted with village chiefs of the area.
In a press release issued by PRO IG AR (S) stated that Gen Gurung briefed on the various programmes that had been undertaken by 35 AR with the cooperation of the local villagers.
Speaking on the occasion, Maj Gen Gurung, emphasised the synergy between the AR and locals which has led to peace and development returning to the area.
He also stated that in view of the recent visits by the study groups, namely the Kuki Research Forum and the joint group of DM College, Imphal and the Archeological Survey of India, very soon the motto "Terrorism to Tourism" will ring true in the Sajik valley.
He lauded the participation of the villagers during the "Agro - Fest" conducted by 35 AR in July last year and said that it was indeed encouraging to see that the locals had switched to alternate means of livelihood shunning poppy cultivation.
He also presented piglets and chickens to some of the enterprising locals who had adopted these alternate means.
Addressing the school children, he said that they being the future, they should study hard and participate in the development of the area.
In order to broaden their horizons, he declared that a "National Integration Tour" for the school children will be organised by AR in the coming months.
Further Gen Gurung announced a financial grant of Rs.50,000/- towards repair of the depilated foot bridge over the Kanalok river.
Nunghlung Victor, the newly elected MLA of Chandel 41 constituency was also attended the interaction programme.
It was MLA's maiden visit to the area after his election.
On the other hand, an inter village cultural competition was organized by 37 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (S) yesterday.
About 150 villagers from seven different villages from far and near participated the event.
During the cultural event Offg Comdt of 37 Assam Rifles distributed prize to the participants, the press release added.
