AR nabs 8 IRB personnel with huge Ephedrine haul

Imphal, April 03 2012:
Eight IRB personnel, who were their way to Moreh along with huge quantity of Ephedrine tablets, were apprehended by personnel of 42 Assam Rifles stationed at Bongyang yesterday.
Ephedrine tablets are used in manufacturing various drugs, and accordingly the state government has banned the sale and use of these tablets.
The IRB personnel were caught by AR personnel who were on their duty at Saibon Post at around 4:30 pm on April 2 .
The IRB personnel reportedly came in full uniform along with their allotted arms from Pallel towards Saibon village.
93 kg of Ephedrine tablets and some other drugs were recovered from their possession.
The apprehended IRB personnel belong to 3rd IRB Bn.
However, one of them is personnel of 8th Manipur Rifles but attached with 3rd IRB.
He is said to be the post commander of 3rd IRB at Saibon and has been identified as Jahiruddin.
Out of the remaining 7 arrested IRB personnel, six of them are riflemen of 3rd IRB and the other is a constable driver.
According to reports reaching Hueiyen Lanpao, following a special tip off, personnel of 42-AR stationed at Bongyang detained the eight IRB personnel and the Ephedrine tablets and other drugs were later recovered from their possession.
The eight IRB personnel were later handed over to Tengnoupal Police Station late evening yesterday along with the seized Ephedrine tablets and allotted service arms.
Police have registered an FIR case against the eight personnel.
Even though the reports of their arrestment have been conveyed to their respective Battalion Head Quarters, so far there is no information about issuing any formal order to place them under suspension.
Police reports revealed that during further interrogation the arrested IRB personnel disclosed that they brought the box of Ephedrine tablets till Saibon as requested by some of their close acquaintances.
