AIM, Khabam Lamkhai trounced YSC, Jiribam 5-0 while KLASA, Keinou whipped SOCDEC, Sangai Yumpham 8-0 in qualifying round matches for the 51st Sir Churachand Singh Memorial Football Tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung today.
In all 16 teams, clusterred into four groups are competing in the qualifying round out of which group winners would advance to the final round of the region's oldest football tournament.
Even though the Jiribam side kept the opponent strikers at bay for over half an hour, a 35th minute goal from the penalty spot by H Dayananda opened the floodgates, particularly in the second half wherein AIM slammed in four more.
The second AIM goal came in the 53rd minute from Lokeshore, while Thanggoulal Kipgen bulged the lead 10 minutes later and Dayananda notched up his second and the team's fourth in the 71st.T Naresh rounded off the comprehensive win four minutes from end of regulation period.
In the day's second match won handsomely by KLASA, T Keneny rattled the SOCDEC goal on three occasions (14th, 36th, 90th), as T Basanta (46th), L Rabichandra (61st), L Jiten (69th), S Homeshore (81st) and N Milan (88th) contributed one apiece.
