With an aim to expand forest areas, indigenous tree saplings were planted at Heritage Park of Manipur University today.
Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing, Lok Sabha MP Dr Th Meinya and MU Vice-Chancellor C Amuba were the chief guest, guest of honour and president of the function respectively.
Editors of different State media houses also took part in the programme.
Rishang Keishing while speaking in the function said that many migratory birds have stopped coming to the State with the vanishing of forest areas.
People must have the habit of planting saplings to protect environment, he added.
C Amuba said that traditional houses, and costumes and other traditional items of different communities of the State would be preserved in the park.
Indigenous saplings like heibung, khongnangbot etc were planted in the programme.
