The three day seminar on "Role of Librarians and Writers in Preservation of National Heritage" organized by Manipur University in collaboration with the National Library concluded today at the library hall of the University.
After a threadbare deliberation, the seminar drafted a five point recommendation.
The recommendations includes Manipur University, being the apex library in the state, to take the main responsibility of preservation of all documents related with the cultural heritage for posterity using suitable scientific techniques.
Tools and techniques concerning preservation and conservation of intellectual heritage should be given sufficient attention to be incorporated in the curricula of library and information science, the second recommendation said.
Introduction of microfilming and digitization in phases adopting standard equipment and software, and to request the National Library for opening a Manipuri section in the National Library, Kolkata taking into account that the language is included in the 8th Schedule are the third and fourth recommendations adopted at the seminar.
The fifth recommendation relates with the request to the Union ministry concerned to give necessary support and encouragement in organizing awareness programmes in the future.
Prof Amar Yumnam, Dean of School of Social Sciences graced the concluding function as chief guest which was presided over by Prof N Lokendra, Registrar of the University.
Dr Ashok Nath, Library and Information Officer, National Library, Kolkata attended as guest of honour in the function.
