Imphal, September 11, 2010:
The United Naga Council (UNC) has sought the Church support in its endeavour to achieve its ends.
In a missive each dispatched to all the churches under the Naga Christian Forum and its units, the UNC appealed them to pray so that its demands are achieved.
"As you are aware, the Nagas in Manipur have declared the severance of ties with the Government of Manipur in the Naga Peoples' Convention held on the 1st July, 2010, and the vacuum in governance and administration is being demanded to be filled up with an alternative arrangement by the Government of India in consultation with the Naga people at the earliest possible time," said the UNC letter to the churches.
It may kindly be appreciated that the task ahead of the Naga people for securing the alternative arrangement will be arduous and painstaking with hardships and sufferings strewn on the way, it stated, adding, "We will need a lot of resources and moral strength to build up the momentum of the movement.
But we are firmly of the belief that with the Lord on our side and with prayerful endeavours, we will succeed in freeing ourselves from the yoke of suppression and exploitation".
"We are therefore reaching out through this letter to request all the churches under your association/regional Organisation for prayer support so that the grace of the Lord will abide with our rightful struggle.
We also request your association/ regional organisation to kindly organise a special service offering towards the peoples' movement which is being spearheaded by the United Naga Council as token of solidarity and revert back to us on or before 12/9/2010, the second Sunday of September, 2010," the Naga body said.
The goodwill and prayer of every Naga soul is solicited in Christian expectations, the letter said.
