The Guwahati High Court, Principal seat has today taken up a case against Irom Sharmila pertaining to the interpretation and legality of section 309 IPC (attempt to commit suicide).
A division bench of the Court headed by its acting Chief Justice D Biswas fixed September 21 for further hearing the petition said a reliable source.
The counsel also asked the advocate general to join the hearing, it added.
Lawyers of human Rights Law Network (HRNL) initiated the case on behalf of Sharmila.
The case was initially filed before the Supreme Court but the latter ordered the matter to be put before th State High Court.
The petition prayed before the court to issue a directive for releasing Sharmila and also to stop force feeding.
