The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences celebrated its 33rd foundation day today with great fanfare at its Jubilee Hall.
Governor SS Sidhu who attended the function as the chief guest touched upon a whole gamut of medical care and acknowledged the strides that RIMS has made since it came into being in 1972.Calling on the medical fraternity to continue with their humane service, the Governor said that health care is a basic need for human beings especially for children and women.
Stressing on the importance of human resources, the Governor said that health is basic to the development of human resources adding that every section of community must involve themselves to improve the health sector, with doctors taking the lead.
On the need to establish private health centres and hospitals, the Governor said that private sector and voluntary organizations should be encouraged on this aspect.
Lauding the role of RIMS in catering to the health care of the North East, SS Sidhu observed that ever since its inception, it has served the people of the North Eastern region.
The Governor also stressed on the need to make medicare and public health facility available in the rural areas and urged the doctors to constantly re-examine every aspect of health care.
Health Minister L Nandakumar who attended the function as a special invitee said that RIMS has attained a prestigious status and highlighted its progress ever since its establishment.
He also asked the doctors not to hesitate in discharging their duties when posted in the hilly and interior parts of the State.
VC of Manipur University Professon N Bijoy Singh laid special emphasis on the advent of tele-medicine and other state of the art technology available at RIMS.
Computer application and its knowledge too should be incorporated in the education of medical science, he opined.
As part of today's function a cultural programme was staged at RIMS Jubilee Hall and the Governor hoisted the Institute's flag.
