Imphal, October 11:
The general strike called by AMMOCOC in Imphal East from midnight today demanding unconditional release of its chief auditor Hussain Ahmad being detained by police on charges of close connection with the proscribed PULF ended peacefully.
Except in Hatta, the strike caused little impact in the normal life of the district.
In Hatta, suspected bandh supporters burnt tyres in the middle of roads and forced vehicles coming along the road to turn back.
There were reports of two Tata Sumos, two trucks, one Maruti car, one water tanker and some two wheelers vandalised by bandh supporters along the Hatta-Chekon road.
A source informed that police have arrested two bandh supporters while four were set free after detaining them for sometime.
Our Yairipok correspondent informed that the general strike was effective in Yairipok.
Road blockades were installed in front of Azad High School, Yairipok using burning tyres and boulders.
Some vehicles were also reportedly damaged by suspected bandh supporters.
Similar general strike has been called in Imphal West with effect from midnight tomorrow, informed AMMOCOC.
