Imphal, October 11:
With the Assembly elections approaching fast, a new political party christened the Manipur Hills and Plain Democratic Party (MHPDP) was established and its manifesto published.
During a press meet today at the Manipur Press Club, president of the new political outfit Gurumayum Molecule Sharma said that the new party was established as he was disgusted with the frequent phenomenon of defections from one party to another and destructive mud slingings among them.
Taking a dig at the SPF Government under Chief Minister O Ibobi, he asserted that the State Government has failed to anything either in words or deeds to thwart the challenges posed by the demand for greater Nagaland.
He further flayed the helpless attitude of the SPF Government in the issue of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act 1958 and the six year long justified campaign of Irom Chanu Sharmila.
Asserting that the draconian Act could be repealed in a moment if the State Government is really concerned about the grievances of the people, Molecule observed that no politician including Rishang Keishing, Jaychandra, Nipamacha and Ranbir had ever done anything to fulfil the long standing demand of the people.
He compared the draconian Act to a protective shield for the corrupted MLAs and Ministers while it is a devil for the people.
According to the manifesto of the party published today, MHPDP pledged to implement 25 different points.
Molecule further disclosed that the party would candidates in all the 60 Assembly constituencies in the upcoming elections.
