The Poumai Tsiidoumai Me (Poumai Students Union) conducted a tour of all Poumai villages led by its general secretary to check the functioning of Government schools in the Poumai area starting from November 24 to December 7 last.
The team visited almost all the villages to inspect Government schools and offices set up in the villages besides looking into the functioning of the NGOs in the area.
The tour considered as a landmark achievement found out that many schools were running with inadequate teaching staff, in a pathetic condition without adequate infrastructure.
The most common complaint received from the villagers were that of lack of Science and Maths teachers.
With regard to the Government offices, the team leader said that there is ho proper building and attendance of staff was almost nil and added that it stands in namesake only.
The union stated that it will be apprising the matter to the concerned authority to look into the grievances of the people and has thanked Louno Andrew, a social worker for providing transport to the union.
Meanwhile, it may be mentioned here that the Liyai village authority has done commendable work in cutting of ring road in the village which has enable all type of vehicles accessible to every household.
