Shilllong, September 30 2009:
A hardcore militant, Manav Handique, who was ailing today surrendered to the BSF with arms and ammunition.
The 30-year-old Handique surrendered with a Italian made 7.65 MM pistol with one magazine, two hand grenades and 21 assorted ammunitions to Assam and Meghalaya Frontier BSF Inspector General Prithvi Raj.
Handique who hailed from Sarupabhajan Goan in Assam's Golaghat District joined the ULFA in 1999 and was trained at the 2nd Batallion of the NSCN (K) based in Myanmar.
Talking to the media he said about 500 militants belonging to different militant groups were bieng trained in Myanmar.
