Imphal, September 07, 2009:
Maha Kabui Pei/Thoubei village Customary Court has urged the concerned government authority not to take further step for the acquisition of the village's land for use of Assam Rifles.
A statement issued by the village chief of Mahakabui, Rajanglung Gangmei and the secretary of Thoubei Customary Court, Jeevan Golmei stated that there are around 130 tax paying houses in the village.
The government had acquired 209 acres of fertile agriculture land for the AR.
Following disagreement between the villagers and the government on the matter of land acquisition, an agreement not to locate the AR firing range in the acquired land of the village was reached with the intervention of ATSUM, ANSAM, ZSUM, etc.
The statement added that the government has, yet again, initiated steps for the acquisition of the land recently.
Stating that the government's step may stir tension in the village, it urged the concerned authority to retract its step for the acquisition of the land.
