Ukhrul, September 07, 2009:
The functioning of the Autonomous District Council in Chandel district has been paralysed following the agitation of the All Manipur District Council Teachers' Association which is demanding payment of the pending six months' salary to the employees of the six District Councils in the State.
According to information received by the press, the office of the Autonomous District Council, Chandel has been remaining shut down for the last 11 days paralysing its normal functioning.
Talking to mediapersons, a teacher of Chandel District Council said that the ongoing agitation would continue until fulfilment of the demands of the District Council Teachers' Association.
It may be noted here that after launching of a pen down strike from August 28 to 31 and staging sit-in-protest demonstration in different parts of the State from September 2 to 4, the Association had also submitted a memorandum to the Governor highlighting its demands.
The agitation of the District Council teachers is also reported to be total at Ukhrul, Senapati, Sadar Hills, Tamenglong and Churachandpur districts where normal activities of the District Council offices have come to grinding halt.
