The Silver Jubilee of the Manipur Hill Journalists' Union (MHJU) was celebrated today at Lamka Press Club site located at Headquarters Veng, Churachandpur.
The occasion was graced by Power Minister Phungzathang Tonsing, IPR Minister TN Haokip, and MLA & MTDC chairman T.Manga Vaiphei, MLA V.Hangkhanlian, as the chief guest, functional president and guests of honour respectively.
Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur, Sumant Singh was the chief host of the function.
Stressing on the role of newspaper in building peaceful society, Phungzathang said the press should restraint their freedom in order to avoid misunderstandings.
He said the press should take the role of peacemaker.
Minister T Phungzathang also lauded the efforts of DC Sumant Singh for helping the MHJU a site for a press club in Churachandpur.
Churachandpur DC Sumant Singh observed that the district has the distinction of being having the largest numbers of newspapers/magazines next to Imphal in the state.
It may be mentioned that the MHJU was established on September 7, 1984.There have been 16 journals and newspapers published by its members.
The union is preparing to construct a press club in Churachandpur on a 300x90 ft land.
