Imphal, February 01:
MLA BD Behring has submitted a memorandum to the Chairman and member of the Parliamentary standing committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture for revision of the air-fare and withdrawal of Restricted Area Permit to attract tourists in Manipur State as well as the entire North East region.
Pointing out differences in air-fare regarding existing rates for travel into the region and other air routes of the country, the former MP's representation elaborates Imphal-New delhi rate which is much higher (Rs 12,586) compared to travel for longer distances like Bangalore which is cheaper (Rs 11,476) inspite of the latter's longer distance.
Levying of higher rates for air route travel has dent potential to boost tourism in the region, said the MLA.
Regarding withdrawal of RAP, Behring's representation highlights tiresome process in obtaining travel permission which only discourage foreign travellers from foraying into the region as the time limit is very short and travelled allowed at only specific places.
