Imphal, February 01:
The last time the BSEM interacted with The Sangai Express, they sounded positive and assured that the remaining text books will be made available by Jan 31, but even as the new session started today, the farce still continues and disgusted with the conduct of the BSEM, some book stores have started selling the indent issued to them.
What is more the manuscript of some text books are yet to be punched into the computers.
Till today, students, parents and guardians are yet unable to obtain the needed text books for Class VI, VII and VIII from the book stores, though the new session started today.
A number of book stores in Imphal have put up the notice, "Text books for Class VI, VII and VIII not available".
Clearly peeved with the conduct of the BSEM, some book stores are understood to have sold off their indent to second parties at a premium, as the Board is not able to supply more than 10-20 copies each to the book stores.
The indent is issued to each book store at Rs 10 apiece.
Many shops have deemed it better not to procure the text books from the Board as the BSEM has not been able to supply not more than 10-20 copies of each subject to the book stores.
Till date BSEM has been able to release the text books of only 22 subjects for the three classes, Class VI, VII and VIII.
Out of these ten text books are for Class VI, seven for Class VII and five subjects for Class VIII.
Each class has at least 16 subjects.
The DTP work for English Grammar and English Workbook for the three classes has been finalised and currently the correction process is on, informed a Board official.
However for Hindi text books, the DTP work for all the three classes are yet to begin.
The BSEM nevertheless hopes to make all the text books available by the second week of February.
Most of the text books which have hit the book shelves are English medium.
As the text books for Manipuri medium are to be translated from the English text, the majority of the Manipuri medium text books are yet to be issued.
What is more the translation works are yet to start for majority of the text books.
Manipuri medium students may well have to wait beyond March to receive their text books.
