Pawar assures aid

Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has assured certain amount of assistance to the State Government's proposed project to develop a sanctuary for Manipuri pony at Marjing, Heingang, Imphal East.
Sharad Pawar announced this during a meeting of North East Veterinary Ministers at Gangtok today.
Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Minister Govindas Konthoujam who was also present at the meeting drew attention of the Union Minister towards conservation of Manipuri breed of pony which has become a threatened species for they have little economic importance these days.
After listening to the proposal of K Govindas, Sharad Pawar not only assured assistance to the State Government's project for conservation of pony but also suggested to raise the population of pony.
Moreover, the Union Minister have approval to install a surveillance system at Moreh for scanning animals brought from Moreh.
Sharad Pawar further gave his consent to the proposal of setting up a piggery farm at Andro.
Instead of the earlier practice of sharing livestock insurance 50 per cent each between the Centre and the State, Govindas, highlighting the State's sick financial condition, put up a new proposal of 90 per cent funding by the Centre and 10 per cent by the State.
The same proposal is likely to get due approval very soon.
Veterinary Commissioner L Lakher was also present at the meeting.
