Imphal, September 27 2015:
A civilian was pulled up by a combined team of Bishnupur commandos and security personnel and freed later only after allegedly subjecting him to third degree torture.
Nunglepam Bankim Meitei (36) s/o Yaiskul of Koirou, Thongju Part II who runs a mobile phone repairing shop at Paona Keithel was pulled up by the combined force from his home at around 1.30 am of September 25 .
Bankim who was admitted in Nambol CHC because of severe injuries inflicted in the course of alleged continuous torture was brought home by his own family members in the morning of Friday.
Taking strong exception to the excesses committed by security forces, a protest demonstration was staged today at Koirou under the aegis of the Young Development Association and the Chaokhat Thourang Nupi Lup.
Bankim's mother Nunglepam (O) Yaima said that Bankim, his younger brother and another man of the neighbourhood were pulled up by security forces in the intervening night of January 24 and 25 this year.
She asserted that her son has no connection with any UG group.
It was misinformation by an informer who knows Bankim very well which landed him in trouble again and again, Yaima said.
The protesters put up placards and festoons which read, "Stop acting on false information and torturing civilians", "Security forces should be wary of malicious informers" etc.
