Voluntary Help Unit Committee (VHUC) observes birthday

The Voluntary Help Unit Committee (VHUC), RIMS celebrated its 11th foundation day at Manipur Press Club here today.
Head of Immuno Haematology and Blood Transfusion Department Dr A Meinya, CMO of the same department Dr Y Bijoykumar and VHUC president Th Asnikumar graced the function as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Giving key-note address of the function, VHUC advisor Laishramcha Minabanta recalled that the VHUC was established as a helpline on June 20, 2001 to help wounded men and women during the historic mass movement of June, 2001 .
With the money donated by public, the VHUC in association with JN Hospital Helpline provided monetary assistance to the families of those martyred in the movement.
After that, the VHUC has been providing humanitarian services to both wounded and dead people during the turbulent of days sustained civil movement against the rape and murder of Manorama by Assam Rifles, ISKCON blast, Pourabi blast, Chingmeirong blast, Ragailong bomb blast, attacks on non-local labourers, murder of Dr Kishan and his two staff etc.
In addition to these services, the VHUC has been organising free medical camps as well as blood donation camps.
The committee has also been helping patients who have no relatives to look after them at RIMS.
So far, the VHUC has organised blood donation camps 12 times.
It has also produced and released a documentary film titled Ee in 2010, Minabanta said.
The function culminated with distribution of certificates to volunteers who donated blood at the blood donation camp jointly organised by VHUC and IHBT Department, RIMS on June 18 this year.
