Imphal, June 20 2012:
The 11th Foundation Day of Voluntary Help Unit Committee (VHUC), RIMS was held at Manipur Press Club today.
The function was graced by MP Dr T Meinya, President of VHUC, Th Ashinikumar and Dr Y Bijoykumar, CMO, IHBT as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr T Meinya said that even though there is strict rule that blood taken out from the blood bank for use on patients have to be replaced by family members or relatives of the patients, there are cases where huge quantity of blood is needed by serious patients and where replacement is not practicable.
If such ten cases come up in RIMS, then there would be no blood left in the Blood bank.
Dr Bijoykumar pointed out that 97% of the population in Tripura donated blood, and thus become the highest blood donated state in the country.
However, Manipur is among the lowest blood donated states in India.
So, it is high time to increase level of voluntary blood donation in the state.
