Imphal, June 20 2012:
All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has alleged that the funds sanctioned for development of most Government schools in Manipur are being misused by some teachers.
In a statement issued by its Human Resource Development Secretary Romen Leishangthem, AMSU said that such blatant misuse of funds provided for development of schools came to light during an educational survey conducted under the leadership of Singamayum Shahjahan Shah, President of AMSU Imphal East District Committee.
During the course of the survey, it was also found out that most of the teachers from the Government schools are relaxing at the offices of ZEO instad of taking classes and imparting education to students.
These teachers gave more attention to salaries grant, maintenance grant, school grants, Mid Day Meal grants, etc provided by the government.
Revealing the findings of the survey, AMSU contended that ZEO concerned prepared fake list and maintenance grant for 10 teachers were sanctioned instead of 4 teachers with regard to AK Junior High School.
Similar irregularities have also been detected at Top Mayai Primary School.
Moreover, contrary to the Manipur Education Code, Headmaster/Headmistresses were also found to be appointed as Secretaries of School Management Committees, the AMSU statement conveyed.
Blaming the Headmasters/Headmistresses and teachers of such schools for degrading the education system, AMSU reminded them that public can now take up legal action against them.
