IGNTU talk breaks down

Talks between Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Students' Union and the varsity authority today broke down, paving the way for heavier agitation on the part of the student body prompting the All Tribal Students’ Union, Manipur ATSUM to intervene for an amicable solution .
Indira Gandhi National Tribal University-Regional Campus Manipur located at Makhan village has been locked since July 10 by the enraged students following the alleged non fulfillment of their various demands by the authority concerned .
The student body led by its president Khazi Papna and general secretary Jangminthang Haokip held a meeting with the University Director, Prof Ram Jeevan Singh Thakur at Hotel Imphal in the State capital today .
However the talk could not come to a meeting point .
"We met the varsity Director for an amicable solution today but he did not address our grievances telling us that our demands are not under his ambit", said Jangminthang Haokip .
Now we have decided to urge the Vice Chancellor to immediately visit the State and immediately intervene to solve our grievances at the earliest, added the student leader .
He also said that no academic activities including interview schedule for recruitment of guest faculties for Tribal Studies, Sociology and Social Anthropology shall be carried out during the shut down of the University .
Meanwhile, the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur intervened to resolve the stand off and its general secretary Seiboi Haokip has appealed to the authority concerned to intervene without further delay and address the grievances of the student community.
