Imphal, July 12 2017:
Undeterred by the Ministry of Road Transport, Highways and Shipping's offer of just Rs 26 crore against its proposal for financial assistance of Rs 500 from the Central Road Fund (CRF), the State Government is determined to explore alternative sources of fund in order to develop road infrastructure .
Notably, Union Minister of Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari wrote a letter to Chief Minister N Biren informing that his Ministry can give financial assistance of only Rs 26 crore to the State from CRF .
Even though it was informed that there was not more than Rs 26 crore which the Ministry could give to the State, alternative sources of funds must be explored as the dilapidated roads cannot be abandoned, said a PWD source .
PWD has not yet seen the letter sent by Nitin Gadkari to the Chief Minister and the department has not discussed the availability of only Rs 26 crore .
Even if the Ministry was saying that it could not give more than Rs 26 crore from CRF, alternative sources of funds like NLCPR should be explored .
Moreover, it is likely that the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief would sanction certain amount of money in the next couple of days, informed the source.
