Consultation on mainstreaming HIV/AIDS

With an attempt to take a political commitment towards combating HIV/AIDS issue by the ADC members, a one-day State level consultation programme on mainstreaming HIV/AIDS for ADC members was held at RIMS Jubilee Hall today.
The convention was organised by Hill Areas Committee under the sponsorship of Manipur State AIDS Control Society with the support of Manipur Legislators' Forum on HIV/AIDS.
Deputy Chief Minister, Gaikhangam while addressing the one-day convention said that there are 42361 HIV positive people including 11878 women and 2780 children in the State.
People of the State need to strive together to prevent further spread of the epidemic.
Gaikhangam stressed on the urgency to form a forum of ADCs for the prevention of HIV/AIDS in their respective jurisdiction.
Lauding the measures taken by MACS to control the spread of HIV/AIDS by organising such convention, Gaikhangam noted that the infected and effected level of HIV/AIDS in the State has reached an alarming proportion.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Phungzathang Tonsing also dwelt on the need to reach the HIV/AIDS campaign to the Zilla Parishads.
He said that the epidemic could not be tackled alone with the fund that came from the Centre while urging all concerned to collectively participate in fighting the menace.
Among others, the programme was also attended by MLA Dr I Ibohalbi, who is also the secretary of MLFA; Dr Chaltonlien Amo, chairman of HAC; MLA Dr Ng Bijoy and Chairman of Churachandpur ADC, Langkhanpau Guite.
