Imphal, September 09 2013:
While appealing to all concerned to do away with the habit of calling bandhs and blockades and abducting people for ransom in the State, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has observed no one should do anything harmful if they do not want others to do the same to them.
He was speaking as Chief Guest of a district level Congress Workers' conference at the jubilee hall of Presidency College, Motbung today.
Dy CM Gaikhangam, who is also the President of MPCC, further stated that frequent calling of blockades at slightest provocation and creating problems to the general public is not the right approach and should be stopped under all circumstances.
He pointed out that blockades in Manipur are mainly carried out by people in the hills who are mostly Christians.
"We should never do what we don't want others to do against us.
Kidnapping and killing people for ransom should never be taken up to achieve any demand whatsoever", he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister also stated that the people of the hills and the plains have been living together peacefully since time immemorial in Manipur.
But the trend seems to have changed a little.
So to keep alive this bond of love among the people of the hills and the plains, people from both the hills and the plains need to think good of each other.
The Deputy Chief Minister also highlighted various programmes being taken up by the Congress party for the welfare of the people.
Bidyapati Senjam, Vice President of MPCC; S Jiten, General Secretary (Administration), MPCC; Olen Meetei, Media-in-charge and RK Ranisana were also among others who spoke on the occasion attended by Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing, MLA Yamthong Haokip and President of Sadar Hills Block Congress Committee Thangkham Misao as presidium members.
