Imphal, September 09 2013:
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has appealed to all concerned not to impose bandhs and blockades or repeat any case of abduction for ransom.
Gaikhangam was speaking at a district level Congress workers' conference organised by Sadar Hills DCC at Presidency College, Motbung today.
Imposing bandh/blockade or abducting people for ransom brings only misery to the people and such unlawful activities have no place in any civilised society, he asserted.
He went on to advocate that no one should do anything which he/she would like others to do upon him/her.
Noting that the hill areas are predominantly inhabited by Christians, Gaikhangam who is also the MPCC president called upon all the people not to do anything which would not be forgiven by the Almighty.
Hill people and plain people should co-exist peacefully and if there is any grievance against each other, it can be resolved peacefully across the table, Gaikhangam asserted.
Manipuri society's impressive characteristic of peaceful co-existence which was there since the time of monarchy need to be preserved and promoted, Gaikhangam asserted.
To separate hills from valley or vice versa is unthinkable.
He called upon the gathering to protect the integrity and territorial boundary of Manipur collectively.
Congress party is not any ordinary political party.
It knows its responsibility well.
It was set up with the mandate of the people of India, asserted Gaikhangam while calling upon Congress supporters to work sincerely and in such a manner that the party does not lose an iota of people's faith.
