Imphal, September 03 2021:
Given the recent agitation erupted over the transfer of college teachers in the State, the Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has urged the State Government to review the number of teachers posted in colleges across the State.
Speaking to media persons at Kwakeithel, N Edison stated that the agitation staged by the students of CI College, Bishnupur and Biramangol College, Sawombung is an outcome of transfer orders issued by Directorate of University & Higher Education, Government of Manipur.
CI College Students Union (CICSU) has even imposed a 48 hour total shutdown in Bishnupur in connection with the issue which is really unfortunate, he added.
Edison also denounced the State police for allegedly arresting the finance secretary of CICSU yesterday and detaining 9 other students this morning in connection with the shutdown.
He maintained that detaining and arresting students will not solve the ongoing row.
Therefore to avoid such incidents, he appealed to the State Government to take up measures to transfer college teachers at one time as per the requirement after analysing the requirement in colleges.
Talking about the process to recruit 190 college teachers, he also appealed to the Government to recruit the teachers while taking into consideration the requirement at different colleges.
