Imphal, September 03 2021:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has blamed the 'irresponsible actions of the state government' for the issues embroiling Biramangol College and CI College and cautioned that the situation might spread to other colleges if not resolved at the earliest.
Addressing a press meet at its office here on Friday, DESAM president Nameirakpam Edison said that the issues at Biramangol College and CI College are result of the government transferring teachers without understanding staff strength.
First, the government transferred two teachers from CI College, one each of Botany and Geography Department Following protest from students, the government filled in the vacant posts by transferring one Geography teacher from Biramangol College and Botany teacher from Thambalmarik College.
It resulted in protest by students of Biramangol College.
Police even arrested finance secretary of CI College students' union Jiban and detained several students for calling bandh in Bishnupur district.
Unless the government rectifies its policy and assess the staff strength of all the government colleges, similar issues will emerge in different colleges, Edison warned, while demanding the government to fill in the vacant posts in different colleges after the ongoing recruitment of contract teachers.
